YMCA Healthy Habits

For more than thirty years, Stanford Prevention Research has been developing, testing, and refining the Six Step Method for Behavioral Change. The Six Step Method was tested in a scientific study and found to be very effective in facilitating behavior change.  In collaboration with Stanford, the YMCA has developed Healthy Habits, applying the six-step method to changing your behavior related to health, fitness and nutrition.

The Six Steps:

  1. Identify the problem
  2. Build Confidence & Commitment
  3. Increase awareness of behavior
  4. Develop and implement an action plan
  5. Evaluate the action plan
  6. Maintain the behavior change and prevent relapse

This 10 month program includes 22 group sessions, 1 personal consultation and online access to SHALA.  Enoy the powerful support and inspiration you will get from other group members.  Going through the group can reduce loneliness and create self-acceptance.  Contact Jeremy Flint at 723-5470 for further information and to schedule a one to one consultation.

ReadyFit Program

ReadyFit is a series of personalized fitness programs designed for everybody by the YMCA of Greater Rochester. Whether you are just beginning to exercise or you've been exercising for years. ReadyFit has a personalized program to meet your specific needs. The series of ReadyFit programs utilize the new, advanced Fitlinxx technology.


Plans

THE FIT PLAN - designed for experienced exercisers 13 years of age and older. This result-oriented plan includes cardiovascular, strength and flexibility exercises.

THE READY PLAN - personalized 12-week plan for new or returning exercisers 12 years of age and older. This gradual, structured approach to exercise offers four one-to-one appointments with your ReadyFit Coach, with the expectation that you will workout three times a week for 12 weeks. This routine will increase your rate of success to develop and maintain a physically active lifestyle. 

THE MEDPLAN - physician referred program, especially for individuals with Type II diabetes, hypertension and post cardiac rehab, pre/post natal, post orthopedic rehab needs. Please contact the Front Desk for more information.

Whether you are just starting out or an experienced exerciser, our certified Personal Trainers will design an individual program and motivate you to achieve yur individual fitness goals.  A complete fitness assessment, as listed below, is included with the purchase of Personal Training.

One to One Nutrition Session

Fitness Assessment

This Member Benefit includes; measurements of resting heart rate and blood pressure, body fat composition, and flexibility.  Cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength/endurance are also evaluated.  Results are quickly interpreted using a computer program.  Specific recommendations for workout program can be given based on the results of these tests and a person's individual goals.  Call Jeremy Flint at 723--5470 to schedule an appointment.

TEEN STRENGTH TRAINING PROGRAM

Improve strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility with our strength training program created for young adults.  Participants will be introduced to various forms of resistance training techniques, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, as well as Wellness Center etiquette.  Successful completion of the Got Strength program is required for Twelve year olds to use the Wellness Center.  All participants receive a "Got Strength?" certificate of completion upon successful completion of the Got Strength Program.

NEW PROGRAM   ------   FIT N 32


 

Th Northwest Family YMCA of Greater Rochester has created a new program that focuses on getting new exercisers started with a circuit style program.  The class is called Fit n" 32 and is 32 minutes of light strength and cardiovasuclar exercise.  The 16 stations alternate between strength and cardio exercises. The certified instructor is there to motivate, educate and give feedback. The 32-minute beginner level class is offered on Tuesday and Thursday between 6:30 - 7:30 pm  You may start at any time during the 60 minutes that the class is running. Dress comfortable and wear rubber soled shoes (tennis shoes or sneakers)
